- What is the fastest way to order a STRATO server?
We recommend ordering over the internet as the fastest way. Your order data will be sent directly over a secure SSL connection. After entering all the required information and confirming it you will receive an automatically generated e-mail and SMS with a confirmation code.
The e-mail contains a link to a web form allowing you to confirm your order by entering an authentication number. Please note that you should enter a mobile number which you are currently using. It will not be possible to order without a mobile number. As soon as your order is cross-checked through the authentification process, your server will be set up. You will receive an e-mail as soon as your server is available. - What should I keep in mind to make sure my contract is successfully concluded?
Please note that your personal information must be entered correctly while ordering for the contract to be valid. Please note: choose an e-mail address that does not point to your server, as this would prevent notification from reaching you in case of a service interruption. Moreover, you need to have an active mobile number on which we can send you your authentification code.
- How long will it take for my server to be furnished?
As a general rule, your server should be completely installed and configured within a few hours of submitting your order. Our experienced technicians monitor each installation carefully. You will receive an e-mail informing you that your server is ready. We ask for your understanding should delays occur beyond the usual delivery time due to a surge in orders or as a result of our suppliers.
Technical questions
- What does "root access" to the server mean?
A user with „root“ system rights is allowed to set or change all administrative settings on the server. UNIX/LINUX systems have a hierarchical rights system, of which „root“ is the most privileged level. The party contracting with STRATO has „root“ rights when the server is delivered. The contracting party may pass these rights on to third parties. In that case, more than one person may have „root” access to the server. Attention: Only give „root“ rights to trusted people!
Files or directories belonging to anyone on the system may be viewed or changed by the ”root“ user. Some applications require „root” rights for installations because they either cause changes to the system or require access to files restricted to privileged users. - What is the RemoteConsole?
The RemoteConsole is used by Dedicated Server customers to administrate their server through a serial console server. You may also use this alternative way to access the server during the boot process.

The RecoveryManager provides STRATO Server customers with a minimal Linux or minimal Windows so that, in the unlikely event that a server installation is damaged, the necessary tools are available to repair the operating system or to partition the hard drive.

All STRATO servers include one IP address. This IP address will be assigned to you automatically from the pool of free STRATO addresses and cannot be changed. Due to technical considerations it is unfortunately not possible to offer more than one IP address.
- How can I stay informed about my monthly traffic volume?
In the password protected Customer Service area for your server you will find statistics for the traffic volume of the current and past months. You can arrange to automatically receive a notification via e-mail upon reaching a specific transfer volume you have chosen.
With extended TrafficControl it is possible to have the server automatically disconnect from the internet upon reaching an individually set volume limit. This way you can prevent certain attacks from the internet, as well as eliminating potential cost by setting this limit equal to or less than the monthly included traffic. - What technical support does STRATO offer?

Domain questions
- How long does it take before my favourite domain name gets registered?
Usually your domain name gets registered within a few days Then you will be automatically sent your login data to access the customer service area.
- How do I redirect a domain?
Cleverly designed redirect functions are available to all STRATO customers. These allow redirection to another domain that you can choose freely, such as a website already hosted by another online provider. When your new domain name is entered in the browser address line, the browser is re-directed to the domain you specified. Your domain name can still be seen in the browser address line, meaning that the original address, often much longer, remains hidden. A redirect is also possible without restriction to sub-domains for other addresses.
- Who is the owner of this domain?
Your domain is booked and registered in your name by STRATO. Which means that you retain the exclusive right of use to the domain (domain owner). The annual charges applicable for registering and servicing your domain are included in the monthly charges you pay STRATO.
- Can I move to STRATO with my existing domain?
Yes, transfer your .biz, .com, .net, org. or .info-domains to STRATO.
