Configuring Outlook 2010 automatically
With the Autodiscover function, configuration can be performed in a more or less automated manner. The Autodiscover function is already enabled for you in every STRATO hosting package.
First of all, please launch Outlook 2010 and click on the Start / Add account menu option.
In the subsequent configuration for email setup, enter your name (you may choose any name), your email address, and the corresponding email password:
After entering your data, please click on the Next button. Outlook will now automatically search for the required server settings. During the search, you will receive a notification; please confirm it.
The notification appears because STRATO stores the settings in a central file that cannot be reached via your domain. Your mailbox is automatically set up with encrypted settings. Switching to SSL manually is no longer required.
Set up an email address manually
As an alternative to the automated setup, the manual setup of a new mailbox in Outlook is possible as well. Start Outlook and click in the menu on File and Add account:
After you have clicked on Add account a new window will open. Please select the option Manually configure server settings or additional server types and continue the setup by clicking on Next
Then enter the following server information (optionally, an IPv4 address can be entered):
Inbox server with POP3 | pop3.strato.de |
Inbox server with IMAP | imap.strato.de |
Outbox server (SMTP) | smtp.strato.de |
User name | Your complete email address |
Password | Your email password |
Select the outbox server tab and enable the option The outbox server (SMTP) requires authentication and as the method select the option Use same settings as for the inbox server.
Inbox server (IMAP) | 993 |
Inbox server POP3 | 995 |
Outbox server (SMTP) | 465 |
Important note: Email boxes can only be accessed via a secure connection (SSL/TLS).
