Sending emails with Outlook 2007

After you have created POP3 mailboxes for the email addresses of your internet presence, you can set up your email program to retrieve your emails directly. In this section, we will show you how this works with Outlook 2007.

automatic configuration

With the Autodiscover function, configuration can be performed in a more or less automated manner. The Autodiscover function is already enabled for you in every STRATO hosting package.

Please first start your Outlook 2007 and open the Extras / Account Settings menu item and click then on the Newbutton.

After entering your data, please click on the Next button. Outlook will now automatically search for the required server settings. During the search, you will receive a notification; please confirm it.

The notification appears because STRATO stores the settings in a central file that cannot be reached via your domain. Your mailbox is automatically set up with encrypted settings. Switching to SSL manually is no longer required.

Manually set up Outlook 2007

Start Outlook and select the Account Settings option from the Extrasmenu.

You now have the option of setting up a new account or editing an existing account. Switch to the email tab and then click on the New button.

Now enable the Manually configure server settings or additional server types and click on Next.

Note:
Please remember that this step is not needed if an email address was already set up.
The following window (see below) will open in which you can specify which type of email account you would like to set up.
Now enable the Manually configure server settings or additional server types and click on Next.

After this, the window with the Internet Email Settings will appear.
  • Please enter a name for this mailbox in the first field. This is only meant to provide better clarity in the event that you would like to retrieve several email mailboxes.
  • In the input fields that follow, enter your email address and the password for your email mailbox . The user information entered appears as the sender for your emails. (Use the email address that you configured as the mailbox in the customer login)
  • Please select the correct account type: POP3 or IMAP. You can find help for deciding which account type is the right one for you here:
  • As the inbox server, please enter pop3.strato.de (or for IMAP imap.strato.de) and as the outbox server entersmtp.strato.de.
Make sure to disable the option Log in through secured password authentication here.
  • Then click on Advanced Settings.

In the window that now appears, click on Outbox Server. Enable the option The outbox server (SMTP) requires authentication. Please make sure that the Use same settings for the inbox server option is enabled.

Please change the port for the inbox server to 995 and for the outbox server to 465 and select SSL as the connection type.

As soon as you click on OK you will now be taken back to the window with the Internet Email Settings.
If you would like to test your settings, click on Test account settings .

The email program will now attempt to establish a connection to the email server with the information you just entered. If you now see the following image, all settings were entered correctly.

Now click on Close, then on Next and finally on Finish. The email account is now completely set up and you can send and receive your emails.

Note:
If you have created several email mailboxes in your customer login please proceed as described in this manual for each account.
