Change of SSL partner from Digicert to Sectigo

Why did STRATO decide to switch from Digicert to Sectigo?

We decided to change providers for several reasons:

Firstly, we have recently experienced various technical issues with the previous provider's platform. In addition, the switch gives us the opportunity to offer a more comprehensive range of security products that are specifically tailored to the requirements of the European market.

What is the difference between Digicert and Sectigo?

  • Sectigo is one of the leading providers of encryption solutions in the data encryption industry, similar to Digicert.
  • Sectigo fulfils all security standards comparable to those of Digicert or other certification authorities and offers better SLAs (guaranteed fault clearance times), a better service and a more stable technical platform.
  • For information: ‘All SSL certificates issued by trusted certificate authorities follow the same cryptographic protocols. In terms of encryption, there is therefore no difference between Sectigo and Digicert.’

What exactly does this change mean for me? Do I have to do anything from my side?

  • SSL Starter (Wildcard): Absolutely no changes for you, we will take care of any changes on our end, you will only notice changes in the name details in your customer login.
  • SSL Business (Wildcard): The only change for you is that you will be contacted by Sectigo for verification at renewal instead of Digicert, either by email or phone call. The rest remains unchanged.
  • SSL Premium: The only change for you is that you will be contacted by Sectigo for verification at renewal instead of Digicert, either by email or phone call. The rest remains unchanged.
  • Seal/Trust logo: You will find a new link in your SSL administration from where you can download the Trust logo to replace it on your website (if set up).

‘We offer you an improved and smoother product experience’ - What does that mean exactly?

  • Faster verification responses and processing times.
  • In the future, Sectigo will enable us to introduce new security products such as S/MIME, eIDAS products, etc.

Does this change mean that there will be a price difference for my SSL certificate?

No, there will be no price change when switching to Sectigo.

Will there be a period of time when no SSL is active for my website (between switching from Digicert to Sectigo)? What can I expect?

No, there will be no downtime and the switch will be similar to your renewals, only the Certificate Authority and certificate type will change upon renewal.

I already use a DigiCert seal that I have integrated into my website. Do I need to do anything and if so, what?

Yes, you need to replace the seal in order to use the Instant SSL (Powered by Sectigo) seal in the future.

Once your certificate is renewed, you can:

  • Find a new link in your SSL management for the specific certificate from where you can download the trust logo to replace it on your website.

What happens if I do not replace the DigiCert seal?

If you are already using a DigiCert seal, it will no longer be displayed on your website after switching to a Sectigo certificate. You must replace the DigiCert seal with the Instant SSL (Powered by Sectigo) seal.

As the change is made as part of the renewal, how can I easily determine at any time whether I am using a Sectigo certificate or a Digicert certificate without having to check my invoices?

You can go to the SSL management of your customer login and find the details of the provider for each active certificate in the certificate details.
